When I was on an FGI fashion tour in Paris, I went to see the "Little Black Dress Shop". It is an appointment only deal, Didier Ludot Dominique is a collector and keeps one of each couture dress. Usually in size 4, they design and produce 13 a season (lucky number to the Parisians) each year with a different lace seam trim. "You see, La Petite Robe Noire book," explained Dominique "the Little Black Dress is perfect, one can change it with the jewellery or what ever for any occasion, it gives the woman allure, glamour. Every woman always has a "thing" about their LBD. With the black dress one can look "perfect," not too poor, just perfect. Coco Channel brought LBD to be fashion. Now returned from my trip with my small packed “porte,” I realised the importance of “The Little Black Dress.” In these uncertain times, with huge drops in the share market, the credit crunch and unemployment numbers set to soar, we must all scrutinise our wardrobes and “pare down.” Enter the best basic… your “LBD.” No need to keep it to one, because you can wear a black dress for most occasions. Keep your accessories current and your “LBD’s” will pay your dividends.
