Looking out for the spiritual journey in our travels

PDF Print E-mail

spiritualjourneyTravelling is ultimately an opportunity to explore ourselves. It shows us the ‘god-consciousness’ in the ‘other’ whether we are travelling far from our home and what is familiar, whether  we are returning to a part of ourselves we have forgotten or whether we are returning again to everything we hold dear.

Travelling is a journey of the soul and
therefore is always a spiritual journey.

Readers of PFM will know of those times when the mystical and the magical have happened on their own journeys. The moment of déjà vu, the recognition deep in your being that the place, the person, the colour or the aroma in the place has profound memory for you. Do you remember that sense of awareness, your emotional response, your unbidden openness, your sensitivity to the moment?

All of the colours, smells and sounds
seem to come into extraordinary clarity and time stands
still so that you can embrace the moment fully.

These are the moments you can’t plan for even if you hope or think they will happen on your trip.

In the mid 90’s I went to the UK to study Aura Soma. The trip was both a study trip and a spiritual journey. Money was very tight and I needed to find the cheapest route to the UK. I was willing to go any route to get there. As I scanned the routes to the UK the cheapest always included Helsinki as a stopover on route. After the fifth routing with Helsinki in it my friend said

‘What is it about you and Helsinki?’

‘I have no idea! ‘ I said as bemused as my friend,  as I had no connections or desire to go there.

‘Well I think you need to go!’ she said.

Now when I finally booked my ticket I was given a free stop over and you guessed it – it was in Helsinki! I knew no one living there, but another friend of mind had many years before billeted an international student for her daughter who had come from there. She contacted them and within 2 days I had some to meet me at the airport and welcome me to Helsinki.

These happenstances are the signs of a ‘spiritual journey rather than just a trip. Doors will open for you where they had previously closed.

The right people will come along who know
someone or are going somewhere you need to get to
as part of your journey.
I believe these are God’s earth angels placed
just so that your journey may flow and be magical.

Look out for these moments they need to be followed and enjoyed.

For more of my spiritual journey to Helsinki catch me next time on PFM.

May you always travel with the blessings of Peace
