Did you know that human beings are primarily visual creatures? And did you know that one-quarter of your entire brain’s processing is devoted to the sensory stream that comes in through your eyes?
This is the reason why Vision Boards are a particularly powerful tool for imprinting your dreams and aspirations into your non-conscious brain.
A Vision Board, or “Dream Board” is typically a poster board on which you can collage images that you have torn out from magazines of who you want to become and what you want to have in your life. The idea behind this exercise is that when you surround yourself with these aspirational images, you begin to manifest these specific desires into your life.
Here are some easy steps on how to put together a Vision Board:
1) You will need a pair of scissors, glue, some magazines to cut out, and one large cardboard or a cork board on which to paste or pin your images on to. 2) Before you begin your Vision Board, sit quietly and set the intent. This gives you the chance to clearly create your vision, whether it be for your career, relationship, health, home or a combination of all.
3) Create the right atmosphere to work in. Put on some soft music and position yourself in quiet surroundings. Remember that this is not just an exercise but a highly personal ritual.
4) Go through your magazines and tear images or cut out words that appeal to you. Don’t glue them down just yet. Make them inspiring. Think big! Remember that you are designing your future.
5) Lay your favourite images on your Vision Board, eliminating those that no longer feel right.
6) Trim the images and glue everything on to your board. Add writing with paint or markers if you want. Make the phrases in the present tense as your non-conscious brain only operates in the present.
7) Hang your vision board in a place where you will see it everyday. Look at your board roughly at the same time everyday. Make it a routine so that your images have a far greater impact on your developing abilities.
And finally, if you start feeling silly as you are working on your Vision Board, remember that every billionaire started with a dream, every successful business as a picture in someone’s mind. A picture is literally worth a thousand words.
