When one mentions a travel experience or journey, everyone assumes that we speak of a destination outside of our immediate surroundings. We forget that the greatest journey of all is the one that we undertake into ourselves. In fact, it’s been said that the most challenging and fulfilling journey is the eighteen inches from ones head to ones heart, and as human beings, we spend our whole lives searching for this connection.

For a long time now I have been aware of the parallels between physical travel and the journey within. In fact, I often harnessed my passion for travel when I had a personal issue that needed clarity.

Travel obliges us to leave our comfort zone and progress into the unknown, allowing us to be receptive towards exploration and, ultimately, discovery.

Travel encourages us to grow. The exploration of our world results in a far greater sensitivity to the struggles of human beings in general. Through this process, we begin to put our own lives into perspective. Travel encourages a sense of unity with all beings everywhere as we acquire a sense that we all share in the same destiny.

Therefore, this website is a collection of travel tips and experiences, “AHA” moments and lessons learnt on my various journeys, as I navigate the four corners of the globe and my life.

Although my audience is primarily women, my tales are for everyone and their message universal. My reasons for starting this website stem from a need to share my life and travel experiences, in the hope that in doing so, I have created an opportunity for transformation and change in some, or at the very least, entertainment for others.

Who is Victoria Ugarte?

Born in Manila, Philippines, to parents of Spanish heritage, Victoria Ugarte received a very unique Spanish-Filipino upbringing. She was bitten by the travel bug at just eight years of age when she travelled to Madrid, with her parents, and where she lived for a short time.

Much later in her life, fashion and travel became synonymous with her career. A member of the Australian “ragtrade” for over 25 years, Victoria flew all over Australia and the world for business, dipping into wonderful and exotic places, as well as more traditional destinations.

Throughout her 25 years in an extremely competitive and volatile industry, as well as being a solo-parent for 14 years, Victoria Ugarte knew all about the long hours, high expectations and pressures to perform at peak levels in all areas of a woman’s life, and how easy it is for career women to be consumed by the world of business, where the focus is on competition rather than collaboration.

In May 2008, ever inspired by the courage of mind and spirit of her hero and muse, Amelia Earhart, Victoria channeled her passion for travel and the empowerment of women into the launch of her new business, Postcards From Millie, where she challenges women to go beyond their current boundaries through travel so that they may come home to themselves.

Who is “Millie”?

“Millie” was the childhood name of Amelia Earhart, the American aviatrix who flew solo from the Atlantic to the Pacific in 1928. She embodies the Postcards From Millie woman; she has courage of mind and spirit, is adventurous and willing to push boundaries, and has a longing to make a difference to her life and the world.
